The Tracheal Stent
(1)Select the suitable type of stent
according to the anatomic characters of the different location of the stenosis
and the patient's situation.
(2)The select diameter of the cylinder part of the stent is 1.3 times of
that of the stenosis part of the trachea. The stent will be suit to the
tracheal wall closely and the replacement will not occur after the stent
recovers to its original shape. The stent should exceed 0.5 to 1 cm longer
than each of the ends of the stenosis to prevent the tumor growing over the
ends of the stent and causing a reoccurred stenosis. The well super-elasticity
makes the stent comply with the bend of the trachea and the bronchus and keep
the smooth of the airway.
(3)The insertion of the stent:
<1>Inserting the stent under fibrobronchoscope:
Sterilize the fibrobronchoscope
routinely,
connect the fibrobronchoscope with a high-frequency
breathing apparatus and insert the fibrobronchoscope into the trachea through
the nasal cavity or the oral cavity to give the patient high-frequency
ventilation. Then insert the leading thread. When the leading thread has
passed the stenosis, withdraw the fibrobronchoscope. Insert the introducer
along the leading thread. When the position is assured to be correct, release
the stent carefully.
<2>Inserting the stent under X-ray: Insert the leading thread into the trachea
to pass through the stenosis, and then change to the hard leading thread. Insert
the introducer along the leading thread. When the position is assured to be
correct, release the stent carefully.
<3>The specific using method of the introducer is shown in the appendix.
